I’ve recently been inspired by Roger-Pol Droit’s book “101 Everyday Philosophical Experiments.” 

He suggests that small, conscious breaks in our routines, doing something unexpected or different, can force us to see the world with completely new eyes. 

The trivial suddenly becomes thought-provoking! 🤯

Vacation time is a perfect opportunity to break patterns and awaken your senses. 

Here are 9 thought-provoking experiments to try this summer:

Philosophical Experiments for your summer

  • Give an unexpected compliment to a stranger. What happens?
  • Visit a place from your childhood. How does it feel now?
  • Try to understand someone you dislike. What’s behind their actions?
  • Walk around your home with your eyes closed (if safe). How do you experience your home without sight?
  • Focus on a single sound for five minutes. What do you discover?
  • Describe yesterday in detail. Do you remember more than you think?
  • Perform a routine task with your non-dominant hand. How does the experience change?
  • Have a conversation without using the word “I.” How do you formulate your thoughts then?
  • Breathe in a scent you rarely notice. What associations do you get?

These small excursions from routine are, just like in life, necessary in the business world too. They help us see beyond the obvious and explore the invisible.
