We humans love lists.
To-do lists, shopping lists, lists of the best ice cream flavors (Nick’s Sea Salt Caramel, of course, no discussion).
And then “The bucket list” – that collection of experiences we must tick off before…well, you know.
Is it the fear of missing out that drives us? Maybe.
I think that each item on our bucket list is a potential chapter in our life’s autobiography.
So, our bucket list is actually the script for our own adventure movies.
My bucket list led me to the New York Marathon 2023.
Thousands of kronor, a long journey, and 42,195 meters of self-inflicted agony.
But why? You can run for free at home in pajamas if I felt like it!
When I stood there at the starting line, I realized it was about more than just a race to be “ticked off.”
It was about collecting evidence.
Evidence that I had lived, that I had dared, that I would do something that demonstrably felt, well…a little scary.
Perhaps it’s the same driving force that makes us take on challenging projects at work – to prove to ourselves what we are capable of.
And the bonus? I get to brag about “that time I ran the New York Marathon” at every opportunity.
Pretty unbeatable, actually.
